The Builder's 90-Day Exploration

If you identify as a Builder, your strengths are rooted in the tangible. You are the person who wants to see a physical change in the world at the end of the day. Whether it is a line of code that finally works, a restored engine, or a finished structure, you find your energy in creation and repair.

In 9th and 10th grade, your goal is to test different "materials" --- from wood and steel to pixels and biological systems.

Month 1: The Structural Phase (Physical Materials)

The Goal: Do you like the physics of how things stand up or move?

The Micro-Project

Join a shop class, a robotics team, or help a neighbor with a home repair project (e.g., building a deck or fixing a fence).

The Resilience Check

When a measurement is off by 1/16th of an inch, do you find the precision satisfying or frustrating?

ℹ️ The Insight

If you love the precision of physical objects, look into Civil Engineering, Carpentry, or Architecture.

Month 2: The Systems Phase (Mechanical and Electrical)

The Goal: Do you prefer making parts work together in a sequence?

The Micro-Project

Take apart an old appliance (safely!) to see how it works, or use a kit to build a basic circuit or a small engine model.

The Strategy Check

Do you enjoy the "diagnostic" part --- figuring out why it stopped working --- more than the assembly?

ℹ️ The Insight

If you like the "how," consider Mechanical Engineering, Aviation Tech, or Electrical Apprenticeships.

Month 3: The Digital/Virtual Phase (Intangible Building)

The Goal: Can you build something out of "nothing" (logic and design)?

The Micro-Project

Use a free tool like SketchUp to design a 3D room, or use Unity or Unreal Engine to build a basic game level.

The Empowerment Check

Did you enjoy the "information architecture" of designing a world from your mind?

ℹ️ The Insight

If you like virtual building, look into CAD Design, Software Development, or Industrial Design.

During Month 2, you took apart a broken toaster and spent 2 hours figuring out why the heating element failed. You loved the detective work. What career paths should you explore?

💡 Egret's Wisdom

"The Builder is like the Egret constructing a nest. Every twig must be placed with purpose to hold the weight of the future. Don't worry about the size of the building yet; focus on the strength of your joints."

Your Next Step: Build a Portfolio

Builders need a Portfolio, not just a resume. You need a way to show what you made.
